VE Day

Date: 8th May 2025 Author: Rob Greyson

As the country spends the day with moments of somber reflection and celebration of 80 years of peace. We ask members of East Herts Scouts to reflect on the service young Scouts and Leaders played in World War 2. From supporting Scouts supporting the ARP during blackouts, being messengers between officials to a Sea Scout Leader taking part in the evacuation of Dunkirk as well as frontline service, with undoubtedly many paying the ultimate price of losing their life or suffering life changing injuries. All in the battle for peace in the wider world. Let’s also reflect on the opportunities that peace has allowed our young people. From enjoying camping, the great outdoors to national and international Jamborees. This period has  brought wonderful experiences to hundreds of thousands of individuals through the Scouting World, long may it continue.
